The winter barley harvest is nearly complete in most parts of the country, but there are still nice pockets to be harvested.
The heat made cutting a little bit easier, but brought risks with it of fire and was hard on those working in record temperatures on Friday and Saturday.
Winter barley continued to perform similar to the week previous with crops probably averaging around 3.7t/ac, but going under 2t in some cases and a lot under 3.5t/ac, but at moisture contents as low as 11-12%.
Bushels were higher this week from 66 to 70 and higher. Straw yields were reported to be at eight to 11 4X4 round bales per acre.
Winter oats have been going under the knife since the middle of last week. Grain is very ripe in some cases, while the straw is still green. Some farmers decided to leave crops another few days before rain halted work.
Winter oats are reported to be yielding well, around 3.5-3.75t/ac at bushels in the high 50s and into the low 60s. Moisture contents were also low, down at 11% in some cases.
Most merchants stop paying at 16% moisture content so farmers will lose out significantly on weight loss for both crops.
The oilseed rape harvest started on some farms with early moistures of 8.5% reported.
