Excellent Health and Safety protocols along with superb showgrounds has seen the cattle section of Longford Show expand considerably in recent years.
Just over 300 cattle turned out on Sunday 6 July 2025 for the annual Show which took place on the farm of Gerry Hagan in the townland of Enybegs.
Judging of the cattle classes went off like clock work, with a terrific display of some breeds.
The breed with the most entries was the Hereford, with almost 80 cattle entered, making a red rosette extremely hard come by in the native breeds section.
Hereford
Tasked with judging the Herefords was young Jack O'Connor from Co Limerick. For his overall Hereford champion he selected the 7-month-old Keenagh Mischa 580 HH, exhibited by local breeders Robert and Edwin Jones. This full horned heifer is a daughter of Allowdale Rambo 475 and the home bred cow Keenagh Mischa.
Limousin
Overall champion in the Limousin ring went to Co Cavan breeder Philip Dunne with Liscarn Vixen, a March 2024 born daughter of the ever impressive AI sire Claddagh McCabe. Vixen's mother is the imported Grahams Lorenzo daughter, Wilodge Oannie.
Charolais
Over in the Charolais ring local breeder Harry Noble was tapped out as overall champion by judge Seamus Nagle with his October 2024 born heifer, Noble Viola.

This stylish young heifer is a daughter of the herd's french bred stock bull Noble Twinings, going back to a long line of home bred cows.
Angus
Aberdeen Angus champion was awarded to Eoin and Adam Robinson from Co Westmeath with Rathmooney Destiny, a daughter of Laheens Dark Boy who was shown alongside her heifer calf sired by Gigginstown the very man.

Simmental
Claiming the overall champion Simmental was Longford breeder Joseph McGarry with Carbery Ramona 2. Born in December 2023, Ramona is sired by Derreen Jack and out of the Kilbride Farm Bantry daughter Carbery Nikita.
Salers
Catherine Minogue had a triumphant day out with her Salers heifer, Coolagoree Beatrix, who won the supreme champion Salers. Born in November 2022, this powerful daughter of Forez is out of the Moygara Invader bred cow Corra Linn Odette.

Belgian Blue
Co Laois breeders Tommy and Pauline Fitzgerald made their journey worthwhile when they picked up the champion Belgian Blue with their classy heifer Heatherview Roxie. This Boherard Overdose daughter has been a consistent winner on the show circuit over the past two years, claiming a number of breed championships.
Friesian
Graeme and Avril Taylor from Newtowngore in Co Leitrim reigned supreme in the Friesian ring, as they won the overall champion with Tackleberry Ellie.
Commercials
Competition in the commercials cattle classes was ferocious. Judge Billy Dunne had the difficult task of sorting some incredible classes of cattle before he awarded the overall commercial champion to David and Grace Wharton's Belgian Blue cross heifer. This thick, fleshy heifer calf is a daughter of the ever consistent show calf producer, Hazard.

Standing reserve to her was Conor Craig from Co Longford with a black Limousin cross heifer calf sired by Larkhill Ludo.
