In the lead up to the sale it was described by the Irish Aberdeen Angus Association as the sale of the century and it certainly lived up to that billing. Buyers scrambled online to secure one of the 72 female lots as the Mogeely Female Phenomenon sale closed on Monday evening 7 July.
Buyers from Italy, Portugal, Wales, England, Northern Ireland and all over Ireland purchased, producing a record breaking average of €7,700 and a gross sale income of €550,000.
The sale seen all females from the Mogeely herd offered for sale by Cork breeders Albert and Jennifer DeCogan, attracting unprecedented attention from new and existing breeders from across Europe.
An incredible 11 animals sold for five figure sums with a top price of €20,800.
Bidding war
Leading the overall trade at €20,800 was the six-year-old cow Mogeely Miylo V647. A daughter of the three time All-Ireland champion Rosemead Karona and Liss Miylo ET, this highly regarded in-calf cow carries a fantastic set of beef indices.
She offered buyers a terminal index of €166, along with a dairy-beef-index (DBI) of €180 and a massive carcase weight figure of +32.9kg. After a full blown bidding war, she was secured by a consortium of AI companies.

The first calved two-year-old Mogeely Elana Z895 was next in line at €18,300. Shown as a heifer when she won the junior female champion at the National calf show in 2023, Elana offered buyers an exceptional set of indexes. A daughter of the herd's former stock bull Drumbeera Everest U241 and Tomriland Elana R287, this high index young cow was sold with a promising bull calf foot and will stay in the rebel county.
Pru family
Two lots achieved €15,200, the first coming in the form of Mogeely Pru U600. This eye-catching daughter of Rosemead Karona goes back to the 20,000gns Cheeklaw Pru S541 who was purchased in the UK. Born in 2018, Pru went to auction with her February-born heifer calf at foot and was scanned back in calf to Lisduff Eddard. Like many of the high sellers, she carries a massive set of beef indices, including a DBI of €169 and a carcase weight figure of 26.5kg. A buyer from Portugal secured this highly attractive lot.

Also trading at €15,200 was one of the herd's show cows, Lisduff Lucy Y021. Purchased at the Lisduff on-farm sale and sired by Liss Minter, this three-year-old cow sold with a February-born heifer calf at foot sired by Wedderlie Blackbox J395.

Lucy also displayed some boastful beef indices and was the choice lot of a buyer from Northern Ireland.
Lisduff Eddard daughter
The much admired Mogeely Lady Jetty A965 hit the headlines when she closed at €12,000. Not a year old yet, this stylish Lisduff Eddard daughter is out of the Wedderlie Oscalade bred cow, Mogeely Lady Jetty W713. Shown once at Midleton Show where she claimed reserve overall champion, this classy young heifer was the pick of a herd in Co Westmeath.

The Pru family was back in the limelight once again and this time it was the original Cheeklaw Pru S541 selling at €11,000. Purchased for the highest price at the Cheeklaw dispersal in 2017, this prolific show cow went to sale with a terrific bull calf at foot and was scanned back in calf to the up and coming young stock bull Driney Wizard. Having the final call on this nine-year-old Cardona Proud Punch daughter was a buyer from Co Galway.
Mogeely Diana A960 got the hearts racing as the sale came to a close, selling for €10,400 to a herd in Northern Ireland. Born in March 2024, this Wedderlie Blackbox J935 daughter combined many of the herd's successful stock bulls in Rosemead Karona and Wedderlie Oscalade. Like so many of the high sellers, she carries some impressive beef indices, highlighted by a carcase weight figure of +27.8kg.
Lady Blossom line
A bid of €10,100 secured the January 2023 born Mogeely Lady Blossom Z891 for a herd in Co Kilkenny. A daughter of Laheens Reputation and descending from the famous Belvin Lady Blossom's, this powerful heifer sold in-calf to Driney Wizard.
Mogeely Black Bunny Z905 and Mogeely Pru A950 both found new homes at €10,000. Black Bunny is a daughter of Drumbeera Everest going back to the great Knights Blackbird 9Y, while Pru is sired by the senior Irish Aberdeen Angus All-Ireland champion Corlismore Tomohawk.
