The five winners of the Irish Country Meats Flocks of the Future Competition were announced at Sheep 2025. The lucky winners who each receive five breeding rams and one five-star ram are as follows:
Allan Malone, Co Roscommon, aged 14.Maria Macken, Co Mayo, aged 20.Gillian Earle, Co Wexford, aged 22.Jack Connaughton, Co Westmeath, aged 25.Kelsey Daly, Co Roscommon, aged 23.The competition was initially designed with four flocks as a prize but ICM managing director Jerome Aherne explains that following a remarkable response and a high level of entries a decision was taken to add another flock to the competition.
As part of the competition applicants had to submit a short video outlining their plans for the flock along with answering questions around flock management, sustainability and the role ICM can play in supporting their success.
The winners will also receive one-to-one production advice from Teagasc and tailored support from Sheep Ireland regarding breeding and performance recording, with market insights provided by Bord Bia. The two ICM plants in Camolin and Navan will also provide a 20c/kg bonus on lambs sold to ICM under the initiative.
