It was a busy day one at Highland Show where the sheep rings were busy with entries across all the championships.

There were 15 breeds of sheep judged on day one of the show.

It was no easy task for the team of judges, with some of Scotland’s top-class sheep on show.

Blackface

Under judge Archie MacGregor of Allanfauld, Kilsyth, the champion went to James Ramsay with a shorn aged ewe and reserve went to David MacArthur with a shearling ewe.

Suffolk

Judge John Gibb of Techmuiry, Fraserburgh, picked a shearling ewe from James Innes and reserve went to the second-prizewinning shearling ewe from Finn Christie.

North Country Cheviot (Park Type)

Champion spot was awarded to Jonnie Campbell by judge Roderick Runciman of Stow, Scottish Borders, with a shearling ewe and reserve went to Andrew Polson with an aged ram.

North Country Cheviot (Hill Type)

In the North Country cheviot hill type section, judge Peter Tweedie, of Hownam, Jedburgh, picked his champion, a shearling ewe from Andrew Campbell and reserve went to the shearling ram from William Douglas.

Lleyn

Both champion and reserve champion Lleyn went to T & I Walling. Champion went to their shearling ewe and reserve went to their shearling ram. Judge here was Colin Price, Brecon, Powys.

Ryeland

Judge John Donovan of Whitland, Carmarthenshire, picked the Ryland champion of A & D Mitchell for their shearling ewe and reserve went to Janice Henderson with a ewe lamb.

Commercials

Champion in the commercial section went to Andrew Ballie with a continental-cross ewe with lambs and foot and reserve went to Kirsty Morton with a pair of prime lambs that weighed under 80kg. Judge here was John Guthrie, Muthill, Perthshire.

Border Leicester

Champion Border Leicester was awarded to Sandy Watsons aged ewe and reserve went to Duncan Whyte's aged ram under judge Jack Lamb, Ayr, Ayrshire.

Jacob

Judge Siwan Harries of Llandeilo, Carmethernshire, picked out a ram lamb from Adam Christie as the Jacob champion and it was an aged ewe from Robert Locker that took reserve.

Dutch Spotted

It was a family affair in the Dutch Spotted section under judge Gordon Troup of Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, with Hannah and her son Robbie taking champion with a shearling ewe and Ali Jackson taking reserve with an impressive ewe lamb.

Charollais

Champion went to the well-known Logie Durno flock of Gregor and Bruce Ingram with a shearling ewe and reserve went to Hannah Jackson with a smart ewe lamb. Judge here was Dewi Evans, Moelfre, Anglesey.

Blue Du Maine

Judge Pat Imlah, Newmachar, Aberdeenshire, picked out a shearling ewe from Kerrie McDermid as champion.

Blue Texel

Champion Blue Texel went to a standout shearling ewe from David Gray and reserve went to Stephanie Dick with a shearling ram, under judge Izzy Hartley of Nelson, Lancashire.
