There was another strong day of competition in the sheep rings at Highland Show 2025, with breeders from each breed battling it out in the high temperatures to win a coveted title.

Texel

A large Texel entry was judged by David McKerrow from Aberdeenshire and his pick of champion was a super shearling ewe from Robert Wilson and reserve went to Alan Clarke's shearling ram.

Hampshire Down

Judge for the Hampshire Down section was Lucy Heywood from Somerset.

It was a standout out ewe lamb from John Grossick that claimed champion and it was the second-prizewinning ewe lamb from E & I Mackinnon that went on to win the overall reserve champion.

Crossing Bluefaced Leicester

In the Bluefaced Leicester crossing type section, judge for the day was Martin Allan from Cumbria.

He had a difficult job with the quality of sheep on offer. However, coming out on top was the special shearling ewe from Archie MacGregor. Reserve champion spot went to a strong ram lamb from Allan Wight.

Zwartbles

There was a quality entry of Zwartbles for judge Tom Blamire to choose from.

His champion came in the form of an aged ewe from Ally Baird and his reserve was a ewe lamb from Hannah Jackson.

Scotch Mule

In a strong Scotch Mule class, a shearling ewe from John Pirie was judge Brian Gilchrist’s choice as champion and his reserve champion went to a ewe lamb from Kevin Ridley.

Shetland

In the Shetland sheep section, judge Richard Spence, a Shetland native, had a lot to judge, but claiming both champion and reserve champion was Catherine Sharp with an aged ewe as champion and an aged ram as reserve champion.

Valais Blacknose

It was an aged ram from Tom Blackwood that stood out for judge Jamie Wood as his Valais Blacknose champion and his choice of reserve was an aged ewe from Robert Taylor.
