The 2025 payment for the Red Clover Silage Measure (RCSM) is €300/ha up to a maximum of 20ha.
Red clover silage established between 16 July 2024 and 15 July 2025 is eligible for payment, provided the relevant lands are declared as such in the 2025 Basic Income Support for Sustainability (BISS) application.
The terms and conditions state that a reduced rate per hectare will apply as appropriate if applications exceed the available budget.
Applicants will be required to upload supporting documents (receipts, seed labels) on the BISS online system.
The red clover silage sward must be sown at the recommended seeding rates of at least 30kg/ha by 15 July 2025 with the sward successfully established by 30 September 2025.
The seed mixture must include 4kg red clover for each 12kg pack.
The balance of the seed mixture must contain either perennial ryegrass of hybrid ryegrasses and may contain some white clover. All varieties used must be included on the 2025 Department of Agriculture grass and white clover recommended lists of varieties.
Multispecies sward measure
The terms and conditions of the Multispecies sward measure are similar to the RCSM with a payment of €300/ha up to a maximum of 20ha. Swards sown from 16 July 2024 to 15 July 2025 are eligible and must be established by 30 September 2025.
Lands must be declared on the 2025 BISS application as either:
Permanent pasture (MSS) for reseeding permanent pasture with multi-species sward mixture, or,Grass year one (MSS) for multispecies sward mixture following an arable crop.The multispecies sward mix must be sown by 15 July 2025 with the sward successfully established by 30 September 2025.
A six-species mix is required and must contain the minimum quantities per hectare as set out in the terms and conditions.
The mix must contain at least two grasses, two herbs and two legumes.
All perennial ryegrass and white clover varieties used in the multispecies sward mix must be included on the 2025 Department of Agriculture grass and white clover recommended lists of varieties.
