The Department of Agriculture is reminding farmers of the key deadlines for verifying slurry movements between farms.

Organic nutrient movements that took place between 1 January and 30 June 2025 must be verified by the importer by 23.59 on 14 July 2025.

Organic nutrient movements that take place between 1 July and 31 December 2025 must be verified by the importer by 14 January 2026.

To be considered valid, slurry movements must be recorded by the exporter within four days and verified by the importer by the appropriate dates set out above.

Online declaration

With the exception of a limited number of justified cases (eg force majeure), declaration and verification of these movements must be done online. This can be done through either of the following:

  • 1. The nitrogen and phosphorus section of the www.agfood.ie account, or
  • 2. The Department’s organic nutrient movement app.

    • The Department wishes to also remind farmers, who are exporting organic manures from their holding, that they must declare the movement to the Department within four days of the movement taking place. This requirement has been in place since the start of 2025.

    If farmers are experiencing any difficulties declaring or verifying organic nutrient movements, they are advised to contact nitrates@agriculture.gov.ie or phone 053 9163425 by 14 July. The Department will then provide assistance.
