There was just under 100 lots of cattle in Milford Mart on Wednesday for the fortnightly cattle sale.
The entry was made up of cull cows, bulls, heifers and a small number of quality cows and calves.
Quality cows and calves were in high demand from both ringside and online buyers.
A top price of €4,780 was paid out for a strong five-star Charolais cow with her seven-month-old Charolais bull calf at foot. She was also scanned back in calf and due in November.
The rest of the cow-and-calf consignment sold from €2,100 to €3,460 on the day.
Cull cows
There was a strong cull cow entry of over 30 cull cows. These cows ranged greatly in flesh coverings and age, but all types were very much in demand from ringside buyers.
Continental cows sold from €1,800 to €3,160 and achieved a price-per-kilo range of €3.03/kg to €4.28/kg, while dairy herd cull cows sold from €1,430 to €1,600.
The entry of bulls was similar to that of the cull cow section, with bulls ranging greatly in weight and age.
Heavy bulls weighing over 550kg sold from €1,720 to €3,290. Slightly lighter bulls weighing from 450kg to 550kg had the smallest entry in the bull section and they sold from €2,210 to €2,220.
The 350kg to 450kg bulls sold from €1,100 to €1,840. Lighter bulls weighing from 250kg to 350kg were the highest in demand and sold from €940 to €1,390.
There were a few bulls weighing under 250kg and they achieved prices of €800 to €1,020.
Heifers
The heifers were last to the ring and by no means least, with heavy 500kg-plus heifers selling from €2,300 to €2,660.
Heifers weighing from 450kg to 550kg sold from €1,900 to €2,160, while those weighing from 350kg to 450kg sold from €1,420 to €1,790.
There was a small number of heifers weighing under 350kg and they sold from €970 to €1,490.
