A number of farm building projects awaiting TAMS support have to be postponed. \ Claire-Jeanne Nash
Around 640 farmers who applied for TAMS II grants in late 2018 and early 2019 have begun to receive letters from the Department informing them that they were “not successful in this tranche of approvals”.
“Your application will automatically be included in the next assessment, unless you wish to withdraw your application,” the Department wrote.
Farmers who choose to withdraw their application can re-apply later. All applications will be reassessed after the current tranche closes this Friday.
If the scheme remains oversubscribed, criteria including the farmer’s age and ANC eligibility, as well as investment-specific information such as each project’s cost-effectiveness, will be used again to rank applicants.
Some 3,209 farmers applied for TAMS II between 8 December 2018 and 5 April 2019, the highest number in any four-month period since the scheme opened in 2015.
The €45m applied for exceeded the budget available for that tranche, the Department said.
