SSE Renewables and FuturEnergy Ireland this week announced Microsoft has entered into a long-term deal to offtake the output of the newly commissioned Lenalea Wind Farm near Letterkenny, Co Donegal.

The 30MW onshore wind farm consists of seven Vestas V117-4.3MW turbines.

The €40m site began commercial operations in December 2023 and is the first project delivered by FuturEnergy Ireland, a joint venture between energy firm ESB and the Irish State-owned forestry service Coillte.

The Irish Farmers Journal visited the site late last year to learn more about what was involved with its development.

Under the terms of a corporate power purchase agreement between SSE Renewables, FutureEnergy Ireland and Microsoft, the renewable energy produced at Lenalea Wind Farm will contribute towards Microsoft’s goal of powering its data centre operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025.
