I hear that Glanbia House in Kilkenny is to become vacant early next year as Glanbia plc, which currently leases the building, is set to hand it back to its owners, Tirlán.

The building has been the setting for many a co-op board meeting down the years, and more than a few protests from farmers outside the doors demanding a better price for their milk. My understanding is that anyone working at Glanbia House will move to the company’s “innovation and collaboration centre” on the Carlow Road, and that there will be no jobs lost as part of the move.

Tirlán, which moved into its plush new headquarters in the Abbey Quarter in the heart of Kilkenny city less than two years ago, will now have to figure out what to do with the building.

Considering the lack of any action with its long-held investment portfolio, I suspect the last thing Tirlán wants is another asset looking for a home.
