Plans for a 470ac solar farm have been submitted to Kilkenny County Council.

Drumdowney Solar Farm Ltd is seeking 10-year planning permission for the project, which would include the installation of ground mounted solar panels, electrical inverter/transformer stations, underground cabling, CCTV and associated access works.

11 land owners are involved with the project and once built, the solar farm will operate for 40 years.

The development would span the townlands of Atateemore or Blackneys, Ballyhobuck, Ballyrahan, Carriganurra, Charlestown,, Davidstown, Drumdowney Lower, Drumdowney Upper, Gorteens, Grogan, Kilmurry, Nicholastown, Rathpatrick, Scartnamoe, Tinvaucoosh and Treanaree in Kilkenny.

A decision on the application is expected by the end of August.
