The 77th Dungannon dairy sale run by Taaffe Auctions last Thursday 26 June saw 90 fresh-calved heifers and cows, along with eight autumn/winter in-calf heifers presented for sale, with a 100% clearance rate achieved. Speaking afterwards, auctioneer Michael Taaffe said the trade remains very robust.
“The brisk trade for dairy stock continues. There was great demand from a large number of buyers, both in the yard and online,” he said. The sale included 40 lots from Castledillon Estate Ltd in Armagh, as well as 25 lots presented by the Hiltara herd of S & J McCormick, Bangor.
The balance of other lots came from breeders and producers from throughout NI. The high demand for stock was reflected in the prices, with calved heifers peaking at 4,400gns, followed by 3,750gns and 3,600gns. Calved cows also performed well, topping at 3,700gns, closely followed by 3,600gns twice. The eight in-calf heifers presented by the Beechview herd in Stewartstown were due from September until December. The animals sold to a top price of 2,500gns, followed by 2,400gns and 2,350gns.
The March 2023-born Glasson Barrage F Balise, calved 8 June and out of the sire Glasson Barrage, sold for 3,500gns.
The March 2023-born Hiltara Pepper Reann 5, calved 28 May 2025 and out of the Sire Delaberge Pepper, made 3,300gns.
The fresh-calved heifer, Glasson Rubels K Irene Red, born 20 January 2023 and out of the sire, Hoogerhorst Rubels Red, sold for 3,700gns.
