A highlight of the Clonakilty Kids Come to College event was the tour of the sheep and lamb unit.
Teagasc Clonakilty Agricultural College recently hosted an initiative called Clonakilty Kids Come to College. Local schools were invited to gain some insight into what happens on the college farm during the busy spring time.
Four-hundred-and-fifty national school children aged between four and 12 years, got to visit the farm over two days. The children got to see the calving area, milking parlour, sheep and lamb section and the new born calves among other things.
They also learned a lot, from biodiversity to what jobs farmers have and there was also a big emphasis on farm safety. Many children had never been on a farm prior to the day and it was a great opportunity for them to see what happens. Of course, they also had many questions that were answered over the two days.
