The worrying decline in birth registrations from suckler cows continues, with over 40,000 fewer suckler beef calves born to date in 2024.
While exporters have dominated the weanling bull trade over the summer, farmers have started to become more active recently, according Ennis Mart manager Martin McNamara.
Farmers who are involved in the Suckler Carbon Efficiency Programme are encouraged to apply to the National Genotyping Programme and they can receive double tissue calf tags.
