Official slaughter data shows the annual cattle kill in NI hit new record levels during 2024.

Throughput in September was recorded at 35,500 head, an increase of 5,000 on August and 8,000 compared with September 2023.
There has been a marked increase in factory throughput of cattle in 2024
The increase in throughput has been steady across the year, reaching the highest level on record and accounting for 25% of the beef kill.
Even recent increases in the cattle kill wouldn't be considered high on previous years' throughput, Bord Bia's Joe Burke has said.
