Fire crews in Monaghan and Cavan dealt with an incident involving a small trailer delivering large bales of hay which caught fire.

Fire appliances from both Castleblayney and Carrickmacross fire service were deployed on Sunday 13 July to a tractor and trailer hauling the large bales of hay.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident at 12.15pm. After attending the scene, the fire was brought under control and the incident was closed at 2.30pm.

A traffic management system was implemented at the time. Monaghan Fire and Civil Protection told the Irish Farmers Journal that there were no injuries or damage caused by the incident.

Monaghan chief fire officer Dermot Brannigan said: “[The] Fire service would advise that suitable vehicles should be deployed when hauling goods and that a fire risk assessment should be conducted.”
