Running over the weekend on Marteye in association with Harrison and Hetherington was the Black Magic sale of Suffolk shearling ewes, ewe lambs and a stock ram.

The sale was made up of just under 40 lots from vendors across Ireland and the UK.

Topping the sale selling for £4,400 (€5,140) was an impressive silky haired shearling ewe from Lilia Hutchinson’s Howgillfoot flock. She was sired by Rookery Mean Machine an impressive ram that has breed sons to £8,000.

It was Darragh McMenamin of the Mullinvale flock that placed the winning bid on this serious shearling ewe.

A top price of £3,600 (€4,203) was paid out in the ewe lamb section by Messrs Stevenson from Co Meath.

This top-priced ewe lamb came from Lesley Liggett’s Carony flock. She was sired by the £19,000 Carony Cha-Ching and her dam is one of the top ewes in the Carony flock having bred ewe lambs to £6,000.

Also selling for £3,600 (€4,203) was Rempstone Gambler, the only aged ram entry.

This 2022-born ram was purchased for 30,000gns in Shrewsbury and has since bred the 2025 Royal Highland Show Suffolk champion and stood first in an aged ram class himself. Placing the winning bid on this proven ram was A and CH Watson from Cumbria.
