With 14 varieties of spring barley in seed production farmers are spoiled for choice for the 2025 season.

In recent years the publication of the recommended lists has been delayed and this is impacting on farmers ability to choose varieties with all the information to hand.

There is a bit more variety in the spring beans seed area this year with some good varieties coming down the line.

There are two new oat varieties available this year. WPB Enya for both winter and spring seed and Titant for spring seed.

Varieties are the first line of defence when it comes to disease control and yield. They need to be chosen carefully.
