Welcome to the bronze age
Enniskerry-based sculptor David McGlynn is quietly creating magic in bronze from The Corner Studio in Co Wicklow. Developing a distinctive style which combines bronze with materials like copper, steel, and glass for a fresh, contemporary feel, David says: “The Corner Studio in Enniskerry village is where I have my work on display on a permanent basis. It’s also where I get to meet new people and have a chat about my work and what inspires me.” His work is featured in collections across Ireland, Europe, and the US, and featured on RTÉ’s Nationwide earlier this year.

Diabetes Ireland, in partnership with Xpert Workwear, has launched a campaign to increase awareness of Type 2 diabetes among the farming community. Farmers work long hours and face a higher risk of developing chronic conditions such as Type 2 diabetes. Diabetes Ireland is sharing awareness messages with customers and staff at agri stores and cooperatives nationwide to promote early intervention. Posters and leaflets highlighting the symptoms of Type 2 diabetes will be available in these outlets.

The event will take place on Wednesday, 20 August at 7.30pm in the National Concert Hall in Dublin and tickets cost €20.00. See nch.ie

Nicola Sturgeon will share her encounters with Boris Johnston, Donald Trump and Theresa May in conversation with Matt Cooper.

A Farmer’s Life
By Pippa Cashman (aged nine)
The sky is sunny,
the sun is shining,
the pigs are rolling
in manure.
The cows are
munching,
the chicks
are chirping,
the farmer is asleep.
The farm dog is
keeping an eye out,
finally, the farmer
awakes from the
rooster’s call.
Cock-a-doodle-doo!
He pops his boots
on for another’s
day’s work.
