Paul McCloskey’s unnamed mare, by Castleview Inisfree Farmer out of Woodbank Clover (Dunbeggan Grey Mist) €9,200. On the back of a bumper year in 2022, the new sale season opened well last week, when Cavan hosted a lively and successful renewal.
It came as no surprise to note that the returns did not emulate those from the record breaking figures twelve months ago, but demand was strong throughout to deliver four, five figure prices together with a clearance of 77% (94% in 2022).
The average dipped to €5,690 in comparison to €6,706 twelve months ago, while the turnover correspondingly closed at €369,850 (€543,350).

The final five figure return at €10,400 went to Co Monaghan vendor Keith Wilson, who’s four-year-old Blackhawk Bay by the Connemara pony Kilrooskey Boy was out of the Grade B jumping mare Belle Du Soir by Hairos.
