Fonterra opens 30,000-cow farm centre in China - Free
Fonterra’s Ying Hub is the latest farm development in China. The development consists of three separate farms with a capacity to farm 30,000 cows, of which 16,000 will be milking cows.
The complex in Ying County, Shuozhou City, Shanxi Province, has been officially opened by food safety minister Jo Goodhew.
The operation employs almost 400 local people and 85% of all feed is sourced locally.
Minister Goodhew said: “The hub represents a significant investment by Fonterra in its Chinese operations.”
The opening of the hub will also complement other activities in the area, which will boost the local economy.
Already more than 1,000 local farmers have been trained in modern-scale farm management, cattle breeding and disease control by Fonterra’s training programme in collaboration with the Chinese government and farming industry.
