It was interesting to read your article on Local Link providing a lifeline in rural Ireland. What wasn’t clear is that the bus will not stop at individual houses. The senior folk and all users must get to a designated stop. If we could get a lift to a stop, sure we could just as easily get a lift to a town.
I’ve seen school children getting off the bus at these stops and having to walk after the bus to their house. How sad and dangerous is this in our current unsafe environment especially on dark wet evenings?

You can’t visit a rural town these days without hearing about the local Men’s Sheds and their activities. In fact, with over 450 registered groups, Ireland now has the most Men’s Sheds per capita across the world. Go on the lads! Every week, over 12,000 men go through their doors, proving just how vital these spaces are, especially in rural communities. The announcement that Adman Steel Sheds and the Irish Men’s Sheds Association have teamed up in a 10-year partnership comes as a big boost to ‘shedders’. Adman Steel Sheds will donate up to €500,000 to help build, refurbish, and equip Men’s Sheds across Ireland, to help them continue to change lives.

Irish artist, Margaret Egan.
For Irish artist Margaret Egan, creativity has forever been second nature. “I was always doodling in school, always drawing – art was simply a part of me,” she says. That lifelong passion is woven throughout her new book, Natural Harmony – 40 Years of Painting, a reflection on her four-decade career in art and sculpture. The book also features insights from leading art experts, making it a perfect pick for art lovers or anyone who simply wants to add a pop of colour (and culture!) to their coffee table. Natural Harmony – 40 Years of Painting (€20) is available at The Solomon Gallery, Hugh Lane Gallery, IMMA, and gandoneditions.com.

After you’ve had your fill of chocolate this Easter, make sure to check what parts of the packaging can be recycled. Lots of chocolate companies have become more environmentally focused with their eggs. In fact, this year, Lily O’Brien’s Easter collection has had a makeover – cutting back on packaging waste. All of their large luxury egg cartons (€22) are now 100% recyclable so once you’ve finished their sticky toffee egg or honeycomb crispy hearts, head straight to the green bin.

Hot cross buns and Easter eggs might be delicious to you, but they are toxic to your pets. Remember that Easter ingredients like chocolate and raisins could seriously harm dogs, cats and rabbits, so keep festive goodies out of reach. You don’t want to spoil Easter weekend with an emergency vet visit because your furry or feline friend has snacked on the stray shards of chocolate in the kitchen.
